Gleaning

There is a Bible story in the Old Testament about a woman named Ruth, who followed her mother-in-law's instructions to glean grain from the field of Boaz. She was obedient, which eventually led to her marriage to Boaz and "landing" in the lineage of Jesus!

The idea of gleaning never really struck me as it did the other day when I went with two other MMAP ladies to gather pecans. We went after the big machines pick the pecans by shaking the trees then gathering the nuts as they fall. Check out this video for the fascinating process. Our job was to glean what was left on the ground. It was a fun activity on a beautiful late fall day in northern Florida.

I took the little bucket of nuts back to the RV and guess who was coaxed into becoming a "cracker"? Yes, my dear husband.

From the delicious nuts we made homemade butter pecan ice cream. Then I made a egg-less, gluten free, dairy free pie that I thought would probabay be ineatable but I was wrong as evidenced by the photo taken only a few days after baking it. One piece left-and it is mine!
